사순절을 보내는 방법 How to Observe Lent

사순절은 예수님의 고난과 부활을 기념하기 위해, 부활절을 앞둔 40일 동안 금식과 기도로 경건하게 보내는 기간입니다. 올해 사순절은 2월 18일 재의 수요일부터 시작하여 4월 5일 부활절에 마칩니다.
Lent is a season observed with fasting and prayer for 40 days leading up to Easter, commemorating Jesus’ suffering and resurrection. This year, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18, and concludes on Easter Sunday, April 5.

성경에서 ‘40’이라는 기간은 특별한 의미를 지닙니다. 40은 훈련과 연단의 시간을 거쳐 새로운 단계로 나아가는 것을 상징합니다. 예수님께서는 40일 동안 금식하신 후 공생애를 시작하셨고, 이스라엘 백성은 40년 동안 광야 생활을 한 뒤 가나안 땅에 들어갔습니다. 40일간의 묵상과 훈련은 우리를 주님 안에서 새롭게 변화시킬 것입니다.
In the Bible, the number “40” carries special significance. It symbolizes a period of testing and preparation before entering a new season. Jesus fasted for 40 days before beginning His public ministry, and the Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years before entering the land of Canaan. Forty days of reflection and spiritual discipline can bring renewal and transformation in the Lord.

사순절 릴레이 금식기도에 함께해 주시기 바랍니다. 참된 금식은 단순히 식사를 거르는 것이 아닙니다. 식사 시간을 절약하여 말씀을 읽고 기도하는 것이 참된 금식입니다. 또한 금식을 통해 절약한 식비를 헌금하여 가난한 이웃과 노숙인을 돕는 것도 참된 금식의 모습입니다.
We invite you to participate in our Lenten relay fasting prayer. True fasting is not merely skipping meals. It means using the time saved from eating to read God’s Word and pray. It also includes offering the money saved from meals to help the poor and the homeless.

사순절 동안 자신이 의지하거나 중독된 것을 내려놓는 것도 큰 의미가 있습니다. 페이스북, 인스타그램, 유튜브와 같은 소셜 미디어를 잠시 멈추는 것도 좋습니다. 게임에 몰두해 있었다면 절제해 보시기 바랍니다. 술이나 담배를 끊는 것도 귀한 결단이 될 수 있습니다. 주님의 고난에 동참하는 사람은 주님의 영광에도 함께 참여하게 될 것입니다. 이번 사순절이 여러분의 삶을 새롭게 하는 은혜의 시간이 되기를 바랍니다.
It is also meaningful during Lent to give up something you rely on or feel addicted to. You may choose to pause social media such as Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. If you have been overly absorbed in gaming, consider stepping back. Giving up alcohol or smoking can also be a valuable commitment. Those who share in the Lord’s suffering will also share in His glory. May this Lenten season be a time of grace and renewal in your life.
